ISCD started as a small meeting called "Diet and Cardiovascular Health: Chylomicron remnants and their roles in vascular dysfunction in atherogenesis. Biochemical Society Focused Meeting" in London in December 2006 organized by Professors Kathleen M. Botham and Caroline Wheeler-Jones from the Royal Veterinary College in London. At that meeting Professors John Mamo and Spencer Proctor launched the idea to make this a 2-year Symposium to create the opportunity for researchers and specialists in the field to come together. Professor Proctor organized ISCD-1 in Lake Louise, Canada in March 6-8, 2008.
More than 15 different countries and numerous leading global science and health institutions were represented at ISCD 2008.The Symposium was hosted by the Alberta Institute for Human Nutrition and the University of Alberta.
